Xbox has officially announced a price increase for all its latest-generation consoles and controllers. The price of AAA games will also increase.
In a shocking development for gamers, Xbox has announced a price increase for its consoles, games, and controllers worldwide. Almost the entire Xbox ecosystem will cost more. from May 1, 2025. Only the Xbox Game Pass subscription is spared, but this had already undergone a price increase recently.
On the console side, the Xbox Series S 512 GB without disc drive will cost 349.99 euros, compared to 299.99 euros previously. The 1 TB model goes from 349.99 to 399.99 euros. The original Xbox Series X sees its price increase from 549.99 euros to 599.99 euros. The 2 TB Galaxy Black version is now sold at 699.99 euros instead of 649.99 euros. The Xbox Series X Digital costs 549.99 euros, whereas it was previously listed at 499.99 euros. We see an increase of 50 euros everywhere. In relative terms, it is therefore the cheapest consoles that suffer the most from the increase.
Everything is increasing at Xbox, except the Game Pass
Game controllers are not left out. The classic Xbox Series model goes from 59.99 to 64.99 euros. The Elite Series 2 (Core) and the Elite Series 2 (Full) will cost 20 euros more each, at 149.99 and 199.99 euros respectively. The price of special and colorful controllers is not changing, as is the price of headsets.
More bad news for consumers: Xbox will also be increasing prices for games. These could cost up to 89.99 euros for the biggest releases, whereas they were capped at 79.99 euros until now. This is a cold shower for gamers, who had become accustomed to seeing prices drop over time on previous generations.
The prices of the Switch 2, its accessories, and its games had already caused a stir a few weeks ago, raising questions about the future of the industry. On the PlayStation side, the price of the PS5 Digital Edition has recently increased for the second time. Video games are becoming an increasingly inaccessible leisure activity.
