Changes are coming to Windows 11, find out what new features Microsoft is testing right now

Microsoft is currently pushing a new build of Windows 11 to the Insiders Canary channel. This build, number 27871, comes with a few changes—which should arrive in a future stable update via Windows Update. These mainly include improvements to the Connected Mobile component in the Start menu, new capabilities for IT managers via Microsoft Intune, and a series of stability fixes.

Connected Mobile, now integrated into the Start menu, benefits from grouped notifications for greater clarity. Android users can launch screen mirroring of their smartphone with a single click. For now, this feature remains unavailable for those with an iPhone. However, if you're in the Apple ecosystem, Memories from the Photos app is now supported in this panel—a small consolation.

For businesses, Microsoft Intune adds a rather useful feature that allows you to change a power management-related setting. All this on entire groups of laptops, in just a few clicks. It all happens in the Local Group Policy Editor. It thus becomes possible to activate the “Energy Saver” setting, which then puts all linked machines into this mode. The screen brightness is then reduced, and performance adjusted.

This provides a quick response to battery life issues in fleets of machines intended for company employees. Finally, the update changes a small detail in the interface design. A gray, blue, or red line appears under running applications. This becomes more or less long depending on the attention required by the user.

Here are the full release notes for Windows 11 build 27871 available on the Insider Canary channel now (translated from English):

🌟 General Changes

🛡️ Virtualization-Based Security (VBS)

    • Fix: VBS sometimes prevented apps that rely on virtualization (e.g., VMware Workstation) from starting unless the optional component "Windows Hypervisor Platform » was installed.

    • In short: VBS isolates sensitive parts of Windows in a "mini-virtual machine." This fix restores compatibility without having to tinker with Hyper-V components.

📂 File Explorer

  • 🔍 Fixes a search hang from Home when a network drive was disconnected.

  • 👆 Fixes an Explorer crash when pressing View in touch mode.

🖥️ Taskbar

  • 🔢 WIN + CTRL + Number now works again to switch between window pinned to another.

  • 🪟 Keyboard focus is no longer lost on Widgets at startup.

  • ↔️ Navigation with Tab / Shift + Tab: no more focus getting stuck in the bar frame, confusing screen readers.

⚙️ Settings

  • 🖼️ Thumbnails (cards) in System > About have their correct rounded corners restored on hover.

  • 💾 The storage tile now displays the actual disk size instead of a "trash" character.

👑 Administrator Protection

  • 🌙 Some software was ignoring your dark mode preference; this is fixed.

📊 Task Manager

  • 🔍 Search and filters work again (exit the grayed-out search field).

🔈 Audio

  • 🎶 192 kHz / multi-channel devices play audio again.

  • 🔔 The startup sound plays again if enabled.

🌐 Input / Keyboard

  • 🎤 Voice Dictation launches correctly from the Chinese touch keyboard (narrow layout).

  • 🔣 In the Symbols of the touch keyboard, changing pages no longer inserts a stray character in password fields.

🎨 Graphics

  • 🪟 No more poorly resized or moved windows after waking from sleep.

🎙️ Voice Access

  • 🥶 No longer gets stuck on "working on it" when dictating.

🛠️ Miscellaneous

  • 🏛️ The Group Policy Editor no longer displays an "Administrative Templates" error.

  • ⚙️ XML installation scripts now execute all the expected commands.

  • ⌨️ During Windows installation:

    • the chosen keyboard is taken into account when entering the product key;

    • the partitions no longer display unusual sizes.

⚠️ Known bugs

  • PC Copilot+ moving to the Canary channel: loss of Windows Hello connection (PIN and biometrics) → error 0xd0000225 "Something went wrong...".

    • Workaround:Click"Set up my PIN" to recreate a code.

  • 🎨 After updating: the taskbar may lose its acrylic effect (blurred transparency), some UI areas become solid black/white. Fix in progress.
