Free is offering the activation fee for a Freebox subscription, here's how to get a refund

If you were considering switching to a Freebox subscription for your fixed internet connection, now might be the right time to take the plunge. For one week, the ISP is offering the activation fee for any new eligible subscription, a saving of 49 euros. The amount must be advanced, but it is then reimbursed upon request.

Here is what the Free website says exactly on this subject, as spotted by Tiino-X83 on X (Twitter): “After reimbursement. Offer valid from 05/06 to 12/06/2025 for any new subscription to a Freebox offer (excluding 5G Box), exclusively on the free.fr website and with the retention of the telephone number at the time of subscription. Reimbursement of the €49 activation fee upon request made from the Subscriber Area within 4 months after the line is activated. Conditions and eligibility on free.fr.”.

Free activation fees at Free

To benefit from this, you have until June 12 to think about and consider entrusting your home internet access to Free. All Freebox offers seem to be affected, except the 5G box option. You then have until October to ask the operator to reimburse you for the €49 activation fee, via your Customer Area. This could be a good opportunity if you were planning to try Free's landline network at home. But remember that if you leave the ISP, you'll have to pay a €59 termination fee. This amount was recently increased from €49 to €59 to discourage customers from switching providers.

This refund only applies to the activation fee, not the migration fee. This means that only new customers are eligible: current Freebox subscribers cannot use it to change their offer. Free (and other operators) are often criticized for doing everything they can to attract new users, but never making any commercial gestures for loyal users.
