We're starting to get a little idea of the iPhone 17 range that Apple will unveil this fall. But as always, the manufacturer will have some unexpected surprises for its smartphones. One of them may have been leaked early.
The iPhone 17 doubles down
The Taiwanese certification body, the National Communications Commission (NCC), has shared photos and previously unpublished information about a new Apple MagSafe charger. The accessory resembles the one we currently know, incorporating braided cables that are 1 or 2 meters long. The most interesting is the mention of a maximum power of 45W.
This is a significant leap forward compared to the capabilities of the iPhone 16, whose induction charging doesn't go beyond 25W with MagSafe, and 15W with the Qi2 standard. This doesn't mean that an iPhone 17 will charge twice as fast as its predecessor thanks to this new charger, but we should still save a few precious minutes.
The charger unveiled by the NCC also indicates compatibility with Qi2.2, the next version of the standard adopted by the entire industry — and whose specifications come largely from MagSafe. Once this version is certified, it will be able to provide up to 50W of wireless charging.
