Mario Kart World Gets Its First Official Update, Here's What's Changing

It's safe to say that the news is particularly eventful this week. Between a great presentation of the future of The Witcher 4 under Unreal Engine 5 and the opening of the summer conferences with last night's State of Play, we have more than enough to get our teeth into. And the week is still far from over since before tomorrow night's Summer Game Fest, today obviously marks the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 and its highly anticipated launch title: Mario Kart World. And the latter already has something new for players.

Mario Kart World is already being updated

Indeed, as is now tradition for many games, Nintendo has deployed a first so-called "day one" patch for the title. It then unlocks access to a certain number of features. Because the Kyoto firm, keen to limit leaks, had played things intelligently by deliberately restricting its console before the big day arrived. If you're one of the lucky owners of the Nintendo Switch 2 on this launch day, here's everything you need to know about this first patch for Mario Kart World:

  • Enables the camera feature.
    • A compatible USB camera (sold separately from Mario Kart World) is required.
    • Players can enable or disable the camera in Multiplayer and online game modes.
    • When the camera is enabled, the player's head is displayed during the race.
  • Enables Online Play.
  • Enables LAN Play.
    • From the title screen, if you press the L Stick and hold the L and R buttons, Wireless Play will become LAN Play.
  • Enables the ability to send and download ghost data in Time Trial.
  • Enables Displaying nearby player icons in Ride mode.
  • Increased the number of characters that can be selected at the start of Mario Kart World.
  • Improved operability when playing with 3 or more players in Multiplayer.
  • Removed the time limit for choosing races in Wireless and LAN games.
  • Enabled the display of the update version on the title screen.

Version 1.1.0, now available available

As always, this update should install automatically. This is provided, of course, that your Nintendo Switch 2 is connected to the internet and that the option is enabled. If not, simply go to the Mario Kart World page, press the "+" button, and finally select "Update software." You will then end up with version 1.1.0 of the game, ready to go in what marks the starting point of a new generation for Mario Kart and for Nintendo. And as Mario would say: “Here we gooooo!”.
