Paramount+ Doubles Down: Its Hit Series Returns for Season 2

Paramount+ is rubbing its hands, its series MobLand is an undisputed success worldwide. While the platform doesn't only have hits in its catalog, it canceled one of its motherships after two seasons (Halo), it has no intention of sitting on a production that has almost unanimous acclaim. A few weeks after its launch, the series MobLand is already offering a second round of episodes. Paramount+ claims 26 million views in just over two months for the first episode alone. In a press release, Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount and president of Showtime and MTV Entertainment. “We are delighted to give the green light to a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated the national and international charts and reached number one in the UK.”Indeed, MobLand has been ranked in Nielsen’s most-watched series in the United States since the broadcast of its third episode. This is the second best launch for Paramount+, just behind Landman, which will be released in 2024 on our screens.

The series developed in collaboration with 101 Studios (The Agency) and under the aegis of Guy Ritchie also has no reason to be ashamed of its critics, with 75% positive reviews from the press and 78% for the public on Rotten Tomatoes. Ronan Bennett’s creation is therefore set to last at least one more season. It is not yet known when this return will take place. This renewal, just a few weeks before the release of the first salvo, suggests that Paramount+ doesn't want to dawdle. We can hope for a return in 2026 or 2027 to delve deeper into the journey of Harry Da Souza, Conrad, and Maeve Harrigan.

The story continues to be written

As a reminder, MobLand follows fixer Harry Da Souza as he finds himself in the middle of a conflict between two major London crime families. A resourceful and formidable henchman, he is hired by the Harrigans (Brosnan and Mirren) and is tasked with protecting their interests and preventing the escalation of violence. In its grand finale, the first season revealed a clear winner in the conflict. But there were collateral victims, starting with the hero of this thriller himself.

Harry, during a violent confrontation with his wife Jan, is stabbed by her. An accident that could have marked the end of the series' journey, but which, according to the creator, was only a taste of what the next season holds. When asked about this, screenwriter Jez Butternot explains that he could not bring himself to kill off his main character. He told RadioTimes: "When you think about it, 'Is Harry dead?' No, we're not... We love Harry, we love Tom." The actor, now freed from his responsibilities for Venom, will have the opportunity to reprise his role in season 2. He added: "I had the strong impression that, throughout the story, the thing he was neglecting was his family. It was a dramatic and satisfying experience that after going through all of his ordeals, what happens at the end is the one thing he didn't expect." Neither do the viewers. So, tune in soon to find out what MobLand has in store.
