Surprise at Summer Game Fest! Capcom revealed a lot of information about Resident Evil 9, or Requiem. Here's everything we know about the next installment in the famous franchise.
It was an open secret. Everyone knew that Capcom was working on Resident Evil 9, the next title in the franchise after Resident Evil Village in 2021. Rumors were rife, particularly about the presence of iconic characters from the saga like Jill Valentine and Leon Scott Kennedy. If they were to make a more or less prominent appearance in the future installment, the trailer doesn't say so. Because yes, we finally got a teaser video for what should now be called Resident Evil Requiem.
It features the character who should be the main protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, a technical analyst at the FBI. Her name may be familiar to you: she's the daughter of journalist Alyssa Ashcroft, who appears (and dies) in Resident Evil Outbreak, released in 2003. Summoned by her superior, Nathan Dempsy, Grace learns that she must go to the Remwood Hotel, where her mother was killed 8 years earlier.
Resident Evil 9 reveals its heroine and release date in a chilling trailer
The trailer doesn't stop there. The horrific atmosphere is set with a scene where Grace is strapped to a sort of autopsy table while a mysterious character refers to her as a “chosen one.” The city of Racoon City then appears. The city is in ruins after the explosion that destroyed it in 1998, and the resulting crater is clearly visible. It is still unclear whether part of the action will take place in its desolate streets or only in the hotel. One thing is certain: the hotel is inhabited by creatures that we don’t want to encounter.
For the rest, we’ll have to wait until Gamescom from August 20th to 24th, where Resident Evil 9 will be playable, we’re told. Capcom also confirms that the game will be fully dubbed in French. As for when we'll be able to get our hands on it, the publisher isn't keeping us in suspense: Resident Evil Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
