If you're a fan of The Elder Scrolls, this video will speak to you. The Skywind project has just unveiled a new gameplay demo. And the least we can say is that it's heavy. As a reminder, this is a Skyrim mod. The goal? To recreate The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (released in 2002) in the Skyrim Special Edition engine.
Morrowind in Skyrim is progressing well.
In this sequence from the Skyrim mod, we discover a new quest called "Save Joncis Dalomax", which takes us from the imperial fort of Silenus to the dark Daedric ruins of Ashurnibibi. On the agenda: exploration, fighting, vicious traps... and above all, a glimpse of the project's enormous progress.
The quest follows a complete storyline. You play as the Nerevarine, sent to save a knight of the Order of Ebonheart. Nothing revolutionary, but the whole thing is paced, well-staged, and carried by fully dubbed dialogue. Yes, every character speaks. In the days of Morrowind, only the first words of each conversation were dubbed; the rest was displayed only on screen. While this was normal at the time, today it can break the immersion. Thanks to this dubbing, but also to the better quality of the animations and staging, we really feel like we're living a more modern adventure. Closer to Skyrim.
Impressive visual progress
Technically, Skywind is impressive. In this video, the team highlights their work on Skyrim with:
- The dynamic weather effects
- The lighting, much more natural and immersive
- The traps and creatures, carefully reworked
- The sound ambiance, between original music and worked sound effects
The Daedric ruins, in particular, give off a heavy and disturbing atmosphere. The play of shadows, the flickering lights... everything seems designed to recall the sensations of the original Morrowind, but with a real modernity. What you need to know is that Skywind is entirely made by volunteers. In the comments, we see several former contributors acknowledging their work, sometimes done years ago. Some are rediscovering forgotten 3D models, others are hearing their voices in the game. It's a collective Skyrim project, and it's felt every second.
