Operators regularly update their internet offers to keep up with changes in usage and technologies. These adjustments often concern the hardware provided, connection speeds, or included services. This time, Bouygues Telecom is going further. The operator is completely revising its Bbox range, by removing WiFi 5 and generalizing more recent technologies. A decision that is accompanied by a price increase on all subscriptions.

Since the end of March, all Bouygues Telecom Bboxes are now equipped with a WiFi 6, 6E, or 7 server. WiFi 5 is no longer offered. The Bbox Fit, the entry-level model, now benefits from the WiFi 6 server already used for the Bbox Must. Its speed increases to 1 Gbit/s for reception and 700 Mbit/s for sending. The Ultym offer, the most comprehensive, integrates WiFi 7 with a symmetrical speed of 8 Gbit/s. Previously reserved for stores, this box is now also available online. Two repeaters can be requested free of charge to optimize coverage in a large home.

WiFi 7 is coming to the Bbox Ultym, but prices are increasing across the range

Alongside these technical improvements, prices are also changing. The Bbox Fit is going from €19.99/month to €28.99/month for the first year. The Bbox Must is now available at €35.99/month, compared to €34.99 previously. As for the Bbox Ultym, it climbs to 44.99 euros/month for one year, then 51.99 euros/month. An increase that reflects the arrival of new equipment and better speeds, but which increases the bill for new subscribers.

On the same subject – 70% of French people do not negotiate the price of their mobile plan, and yet, it works!

Bouygues Telecom seems to be banking on quality to maintain its attractiveness, despite these increases. The operator offers services such as the key 4G included in case of outage, 4K TV channels, unlimited calls, as well as services like Prime Video or Universal+ for 6 months. With these changes, Bouygues becomes the first French operator to definitively turn the page on WiFi 5.
