On March 8, 2025, Devil May Cry 5 celebrated its sixth anniversary. It marked a return in great form for Capcom's demonic beat 'em up franchise, loosely inspired by Dante's Inferno. For multiple reasons, however, it seemed that the Japanese giant was done with the franchise and that a Devil May Cry 6 would never see the light of day. But that was before Dante's English voice in the third installment made a small blunder that excited fans, rightly or wrongly.
One of Dante's voices draws Devil May Cry 6 before its time?
In September of last year, we learned that Hideaki Itsuno, father of Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma, was leaving Capcom to seek new opportunities elsewhere. It had been five years since the fifth game was released. Everything therefore suggested that Devil May Cry 6 might never see the light of day, much to the dismay of fans. To console themselves, they were recently treated to an animated adaptation series on Netflix, which has also received a rather warm reception.
Nothing, however, beats playing as Dante, Nero, Vergil or even Trish and Lady in a full-fledged game. However, it could be that the Netflix series is a sign of a renewed interest from Capcom around its cult license, and therefore potentially a Devil May Cry 6. A hypothesis further reinforced by a small blunder on the part of Reuben Langdon, voice of Dante in DMC 3. In an interview with CultureScape, he inadvertently mentioned the demonic number 6, referring to Ninja Theory's generally unloved DMC reboot.
"Fans didn't like the direction the DMC reboot took, even though it brought back characters they love. When they came back in Devil May Cry 6... er, 5...," before losing his train of thought, visibly embarrassed at having potentially divulged sensitive information. Naturally, this potentially revealing slip of the tongue should be taken with a grain of salt, while we wait to see if Capcom actually plans to release this highly requested sequel. After all, hope is the lifeblood, even in a world populated by people. of demons.
