In 2023, Disney and Lucasfilm surprised the crowd gathered at the ExCeL Exhibition Center in London. For Star Wars Celebration, the two entities had pulled out all the stops. Three films were announced for the occasion, to be released in 2026 and 2027. While the aftermath of The Rise of Skywalker was uncertain, Lucasfilm was banking on Rey Skywalker, the birth of the Jedi, and the duo of Mando and Baby Yoda to generate revenue. This last project was particularly surprising, as the series was then promised a fourth season.
Jon Favreau is at The film is set to direct, while Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy are working as producers. Over the months, in addition to the obvious participation of Pedro Pascal, Disney, which is still kept secret, Lateef Crowder and Jonny Coyne are also involved. In December 2024, the film will enlist the services of Jeremy Allen White, a Hollywood darling since The Bear. He will lend his voice to the son of Jabba the Hutt. This addition then offered some interesting perspectives on the project; Tatooine could be at the epicenter of the story. We can also imagine that the film will follow in the footsteps of The Book of Boba Fett, which saw the bounty hunter take on the title of crime lord after Jabba's death. Nearly a year before its release, The Mandalorian & Grogu is finally getting its first images. As in As usual, the galaxy far, far away manages its effects and offers a first glimpse on stage.
Jon Favreau sees things in a big way
After three seasons behind the small screen, Favreau is finally given the opportunity to think bigger. The man behind the first Iron Man didn't do things by halves, at least if we are to believe the first images broadcast during the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. In front of a lucky crowd, the director delivered a glimpse of what the future holds for the duo. We were able to see an AT-AT attack, an infiltration more nervous than ever. With a sequence shot, the filmmaker demonstrates an innate sense of rhythm, which we can't wait to discover in theaters on IMAX.
We can also note a first appearance of Sigourney Weaver, in the role of a pilot of the Rebellion. We were able to chat with her on the red carpet, she briefly returned to the journey of her heroine. For her, it's about embodying a character who participated in bringing down the Empire at the time of Rogue One and Return of the Jedi, but who sees the galaxy fall back into totalitarianism. Season 3 of The Mandalorian was rather clear on this subject; it will be up to our heroes to commit to safeguarding democracy.
