The other The Elder Scrolls 4 Remake will be released this year and will be free

After a flood of rumors about it, we now know that The Elder Scrolls 4 Remastered, developed by Virtuos Studios, will indeed arrive this Monday, April 21. The first images of this revisitation on Unreal Engine 5 have leaked and promise to display a Cyrodiil region more beautiful than ever. However, there were fears that this would jeopardize the development of another Remake of the game, this time created by fans, in gestation for many years. One of its creators, however, wanted to reassure those who are watching this passion project with interest.

No competition between two very different revisits of The Elder Scrolls 4

As a reminder, long before we learned of the existence of an official Remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4, fans were already working to recreate it in the Skyrim engine, with a very apt name: Skyblivion. After many years of hard volunteer work, this passion project is reportedly due for release this year, and therefore available for free to anyone who owns the latest version of Skyrim. But the imminent arrival of the official Remaster developed by Virtuos Studios (also working on Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake) could legitimately endanger this highly anticipated and promising mod.

Rebelzize, lead developer of Skyblivion, however, issued a reassuring message on X.com. " To be clear, this changes nothing for us. Skyblivion has always been a passion project. For the community, it's a win-win, since this year you will be entitled to a double dose of The Elder Scrolls 4. We have nothing but love and no hate for the people behind the official remaster. ".

Those looking for a truly visually modernized version of the venerable title originally released in 2006 can indeed turn to the official remaster. Those nostalgic for Skyrim can see what The Elder Scrolls 4 is like on the engine of this legendary Bethesda game. Or why not try both options. While we know that the official remaster is coming in a few days, the release date of Skyblivion is not yet fully set in stone. This could allow both formulas to each have their moment of glory in the arena.
