Of all the existing official WhatsApp clients, WhatsApp Web is arguably the least well-off. But things are apparently about to change. WhatsApp teams are currently working on integrating audio and video calls from the web version of the application.
WhatsApp calls coming soon to your web browser
Until now, the WhatsApp development team has prioritized rolling out its new features within the messaging client's mobile and desktop applications. Thus, WhatsApp Web, the big loser in the story, has long been the only WhatsApp client to be stripped of many features. And more specifically those concerning calls. Because for now, WhatsApp Web only allows you to exchange text messages and share multimedia content. Nothing more.
Things should nevertheless evolve over the coming weeks. As reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp teams are clearly working to catch up on the backlog accumulated on the web version of its messaging client.
In a recent beta of WhatsApp Web, two new call buttons appeared. They allow you, as on the desktop client and mobile applications, to initiate an audio or video call. This means that it will soon be possible to call via WhatsApp directly from Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
The arrival of audio and video calls in WhatsApp Web is excellent news for many users. The messaging WebApp is preferred by many users because it is very easily accessible, without requiring the installation (and the associated administrator rights) of the messaging client on the machine.
Over the past few months, WhatsApp has multiplied updates to integrate new features into the different versions of its messaging client. A few days ago, for example, the application announced the arrival of a brand new function aimed at strengthening the confidentiality of your conversations. The "Privacy "Chat logging," as this feature is called, is designed to prevent anyone from extracting the content of your conversations outside of the app.
