In the space of just three episodes, BioShock has undoubtedly carved out a place for itself in the hearts of many gamers. Unfortunately, it will soon be nearly a decade now that the 2K franchise has been absent. Yet, as we know, behind the scenes, the publisher has been actively preparing its return for several years, with multiple projects currently in the pipeline. And while details regarding them are still relatively scarce at the moment, it seems that things are about to change very soon.
BioShock's return is imminent
This is, in any case, what the media outlet MP1st has stated in a new report, which tells us that an announcement relating to BioShock is more or less imminent. "While we don't know exactly when this will happen, some information suggests that it will happen fairly quickly, most likely before the end of the summer," it can be read. As for the precise nature of the announcement in question, MP1st is unfortunately unable to say more. It could just as easily be BioShock 4, currently in development at Cloud Chamber, as the film in the works at Netflix since 2022.
Unless it's a remake of the original BioShock, which would then coincide with some of the information obtained by the media outlet. "From the information we've gathered, it appears that the city of Rapture will play a significant role in the upcoming announcement. Interestingly, among the details we've uncovered, there are clear references to the original 2007 game, which could suggest that a remaster or remake of the iconic game is in the works." And while this isn't official at the moment, it would corroborate some information revealed in the past.
Because let's remember, in July 2024, a 2K employee indicated that they were working on an as-yet-unannounced remake, which we still haven't heard about until now. Furthermore, if we go back a little further in time, the big leak that occurred at NVIDIA GeForce Now in 2021 revealed the existence of a certain "BioShock RTX Remaster," which we still haven't heard about either. And since we were able to get confirmation of it in the meantime, the listing seemed indeed legitimate. As proof, images of an abandoned Tomb Raider Anniversary remake, also mentioned in the leaks, recently emerged online.
The final straight line
In short, as it stands, and despite the few pieces of information shared by MP1st, it is impossible to determine precisely what 2K's announcement will be about. The advantage, however, is that if it is to take place by the end of the summer, then we won't have to wait long to find out. Especially since we're now just a stone's throw away from Summer Game Fest, which would be a particularly good time to announce the return of BioShock. We'll have the answer in the coming weeks, then.
