The Gemini assistant is coming to apps from major Android brands. Google is expanding its artificial intelligence far beyond its own ecosystem. This discreet transformation is already underway on many smartphones.
Android phones have long integrated intelligent assistants capable of managing simple tasks. Setting an alarm, sending a message, or checking a calendar are now basic functions. But these often remain confined to the services of the brand that designs them. The user must juggle between different applications to perform actions, which limits the effectiveness of these tools. Until now, even the most advanced assistants remained locked in their software bubble, without being able to interact with apps from other manufacturers.
Google has now decided to open its Gemini assistant to the entire Android universe. After focusing on integration with its own services like Gmail, Google Tasks, or YouTube Music, the company is moving on to the next step. The AI assistant can now communicate directly with applications developed by other brands, marking a significant advancement in the use of mobile artificial intelligence.
Gemini now controls native applications from Xiaomi, OPPO and Samsung
This new feature initially concerns three market giants: Xiaomi, OPPO and Samsung. On the first brand's smartphones, Gemini is already able to interact with the Notes and Calendar applications. It becomes possible to dictate a note, set a reminder or check appointments directly via AI, without using a Google application. OPPO is planning similar compatibility with its upcoming Reno 14 lineup, with direct integration into the manufacturer's native tools. Samsung is also working to integrate Gemini into its core apps on its latest Galaxy smartphones. This change paves the way for a more fluid Android system, where artificial intelligence can work across all built-in tools, regardless of manufacturer. Ultimately, this could allow AI to handle actions like changing system settings, accessing local files, or automatically organizing items within installed apps. The models affected include the Galaxy A56, the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which have the necessary power to fully exploit these functions.
