Launched in 2022, PlayStation Stars aimed to thank its most loyal players. Three years later, Sony announced the end of the program... but not without reason. The publisher is already promising a new formula, better suited to players' desires. Here's what you need to know.
An original idea that found its audience at PlayStation
What was PlayStation Stars? A completely free loyalty program. It allowed players to earn points, which could be exchanged for games or PlayStation Store credit. Players could also collect digital items inspired by PlayStation history. Some were even quite rare, which created a real buzz. Over the months, thousands of players participated in the campaigns. Sometimes, all they had to do was launch a specific game or win a trophy. A simple, yet effective mechanism. Especially for longtime fans.
Officially, Sony explains that it wants to completely rethink its loyalty system. The idea? Learn from these three years of experimentation and come back with a more modern formula. Behind the scenes, we imagine that the program may not have met with the hoped-for success. Or that it had simply become too limited to evolve at PlayStation. Sony also specifies that this is not a goodbye, but a new beginning. The company is already preparing something else, without giving details for the moment. A more ambitious version 2.0 of the program? It's quite possible.
Dates to remember
As of today, it is no longer possible to join PlayStation Stars. The program remains active for current members until July 23, 2025 at 4:59 PM (Paris time). Until then, you can still earn points, unlock digital items, and level up. After this date, all campaigns will end, and no new rewards will be offered. The program will end permanently on November 2, 2026. Until then, points already accumulated can still be used, provided they haven't expired. Finally, the digital items you've collected will remain visible in your account, even after the service has been completely shut down. Note: if you leave the program before this date, it will be impossible to return, and all your points will be lost. In short, many players are angry about this disappearance.
But Sony promises to return with a new formula, more in line with players' expectations. We can imagine a deeper integration into the PlayStation ecosystem, perhaps with social interactions, community challenges, or a direct link to trophies.
