This isn't the best time to play due to the political and economic context, particularly with the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump. In a short time, gamers have been treated to a price increase for the PS5, but also for PS Plus, and an increase across the entire Xbox range, which includes consoles, games, and accessories. For now, only the Xbox Game Pass is spared, but with Microsoft needing to increase average revenue per subscriber to compensate for a slowdown in subscriptions, this may not last.
A first PS5 exclusive sees its price increase
Soon, Xbox games will cost the modest sum of €90. A price that is already making people sweat and has already generated a lot of talk, as the green manufacturer is not the first to launch hostilities. Following the Nintendo Switch 2's unveiling, gamers were unpleasantly surprised to discover the price of THE big launch exclusive, namely the racing game Mario Kart World, which will be €89.99 (maximum recommended price). And these increases don't seem to be stopping, as the price of PS5 games is increasing in a first country.
Indeed, on the Brazilian PlayStation Store, we can see that the PS5 exclusive Ghost of Yotei is listed at 399.90 Real, compared to 349.90 Real for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Will France soon be affected by this phenomenon? For now, no. It often happens that prices are adjusted in some countries, without there being any impact in others. Furthermore, we see with the pre-orders of Ghost of Yotei in our country that the prices haven't changed. The Standard version of the PS5 exclusive is €79.99. The same goes for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
For the moment, there's no need to worry about a possible increase in PS5 games in France, but it's best to be cautious. With the current political and economic situation, there's a world where Sony Interactive Entertainment could very well decide to join Xbox and Nintendo. If GTA 6 crosses the €90 or €100 mark, it could also (unfortunately) establish a new standard.
