GTA 6: This controversial feature could be back

As Grand Theft Auto fans scrutinize every frame of the second trailer for GTA 6, some are already seeing the return of an iconic... and controversial feature: relationship activities introduced in GTA 4. Rockstar hasn't confirmed anything yet, but several scenes are intriguing, suggesting that character bonds could play a much bigger role this time around. Between that and the open world that promises to be crazy, it should be more alive than ever.

Jason and Lucia, more than a narrative duo in GTA 6?

The new trailer shows Jason and Lucia, the two protagonists of GTA 6, in several shared activities: car rides, intimate moments on the beach, or even jet-ski rides. While some of these scenes may belong to classic cutscenes, others give the impression of open-world interactions, escaping the strict framework of missions.

This visual choice is not insignificant for GTA 6. Rockstar has often used its trailers to distil elements of upcoming gameplay. Therefore, some fans imagine a system inspired by the Friendly Activities of GTA 4, but this time centered on the relationship between the two heroes. A way to add depth to their bond, while integrating it into the gameplay organically.

A legacy of GTA 4 brought up to date?

Long before GTA 6, in GTA 4, Niko Bellic could bond with his friends or family through side activities (bowling, bars, restaurants, etc.). The more these relationships developed, the more the player could benefit from bonuses like free transport, combat support, discounts. An attractive idea on paper, but one that eventually became tiresome, due to incessant and less than discreet calls from NPCs.

Rockstar had largely set this system aside in GTA 5, preferring to focus on the unique skills of each character. Here, GTA 6 could synthesize, offering an enriched relationship system, but integrated with more finesse into the gaming experience.

If this mechanic returns, it could also influence the evolution of the main duo of GTA 6. We can imagine that the stronger the bonds between Jason and Lucia become, the more the player unlocks new skills or advantages. A progression system linked to their complicity could thus see the light of day, like a shared skill tree, or contextual abilities accessible only in cooperation.
