It's a cult satirical animated series: South Park, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. With its absurd, dark humor and crude dialogue, it's one of the shows with rare freedom for content offered on cable in the United States. So, of course, censorship sometimes strikes. And it could well be that Paramount will ban several episodes, provoking the anger of fans.
Paramount+ could censor South Park as early as July 1st
First of all, it's worth remembering that the series South Park is broadcast on MAX in the United States. For its part, Paramount+ has the films and TV movies. No episodes are censored across the Atlantic, but if rumors are to be believed, things could well change in a few days. Indeed, the satirical series will be broadcast on Paramount+ starting July 1st. According to rumors, the future exclusive broadcaster of South Park is planning to ban certain episodes. According to several comments from fans in various regions of the world, one episode has already been banned from broadcasting. This is episode 14 of season 5 titled The Butters Episode in which O.J. Simpson, Gary Condit, and John & Patsy Ramsey are caricatured.
While the episode in question is still available in the United States, South Park fans in Canada report that this is not the case there. But this doesn't bode well for the possible censorship Paramount+ is reportedly considering.
Some internet users have already begun to vent their anger on social media and forums. On Reddit, for example, one user explained that he had decided to not renew his Paramount+ subscription or even to turn to pirating the series if the platform were to actually censor certain episodes of South Park.
South Park Victim of Censorship in France
For its part, Paramount+ has not made an official announcement regarding this information. All of this seems to be nothing more than rumors. However, it is interesting to note that in France, South Park has been broadcast on Paramount+ since 2022 and that the service has removed many episodes of the series because the content was deemed inappropriate. Canal+, the broadcaster of Paramount+, had explained that it was not behind this operation and that it was indeed Paramount who had made this decision.
