SNCF Connect wants to replace Google Maps with these 3 new features

The SNCF app, which already boasts 20 million users, is strengthening its position as an "all-in-one platform for sustainable mobility" by integrating multimodal transport booking, but not only that. Building on its success in selling train tickets - and for several years now in handling the digital Navigo pass for residents of the Île-de-France region - SNCF Connect is continuing its transformation. The app no longer just sells you a train ticket, but now aims to accompany you from your front door to your your final destination, by combining different modes of transport and accommodation solutions.

A partnership with Uber

First notable addition: the ability to directly book VTC or taxi rides via the SNCF Connect interface. Thanks to a partnership with Uber, travelers can plan their journey between the station and their final destination without leaving the application. A rather practical new feature, which avoids juggling between different applications to organize your trip.

Access to This new service is available from the “Tickets” tab, by clicking on the “Taxi and VTC“ offer. Once the destination has been entered, the user chooses their vehicle type (Sedan, Taxi, Green, etc.) and pays for their trip directly via SNCF Connect. The application then displays all the essential information: waiting time, driver profile, registration number and real-time tracking of the journey. If the functionality promises to find its audience, it is inspired by a previous option deployed in early 2024, allowing you to reserve your hotel room directly from the application.

Integrated pedestrian guidance

Second new feature: a pedestrian guidance system integrated into the application. This feature is particularly useful for finding your way around town after getting off the train, without having to switch to Google Maps or another mapping application. In practice, you will simply need to enter, not the names of the stations, but the precise departure and arrival addresses to obtain a complete itinerary, from your front door to your place of residence. On site, a pedestrian guidance system will show you the way using geolocation.

Rent a car at a reduced price

Third innovation: a vehicle rental offer in partnership with Avis Budget Group. This option should be particularly practical in areas poorly served by public transport. For travelers, the interest is twofold: on the one hand, the ease to pick up your vehicle directly at the station, on the other, a systematic 10% discount on the rental price when combined with the purchase of a train ticket. This discount can even reach 15% for holders of an SNCF reduction card. Thermal, hybrid or electric vehicles will be available, both in France and abroad.
