For nearly a month, superhero movie fans have been able to discover the Thunderbolts in our theaters. The conclusion of Phase V of the MCU arrives with its Marvel-style Suicide Squad, for a film revolving around an antagonist: Sentry. An all-powerful character from the Marvel stable, Sentry is often compared to Superman, DC's bigwig. And the comparisons are not going to diminish after this new publication of Sentry.
Sentry more Superman than ever in this new Marvel post
With Thunderbolts, Robert Reynolds' Sentry has finally made his debut in the MCU. Played on screen by Lewis Pullman, Sentry is described as "strong with the power of a million exploding suns," no less. A character with inhuman abilities, capable of rivaling Marvel's most powerful. Immortal, Sentry possesses superhuman strength, extraordinary speed, extraordinary reflexes, and surprising agility. But that's not all. In the comics, he is able to absorb and manipulate matter, teleport, and even use formidable psionic abilities. Best of all, he can fly.
An all-powerful being who is none other than Marvel's answer to the God Superman. But unfortunately for the Thunderbolts, it's not Sentry who plays his on-screen role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, but his evil alter ego: the Void. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) offers Yelena Belova/Black Widow (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), the fight of a lifetime against the Void. A fight that will still manage to end thanks to the power of friendship and reason, while the Void happily destroys New York.

But now, on Instagram, John Staub, lead illustrator at Marvel Studios, has shared official concept art of Pullman's superhero costume as it appears in Thunderbolts*. This gives us a closer look at the costume and its various components, as Sentry clearly poses as Superman in his promotional content. However, Sentry is slightly different from Superman. Aside from his origins, Sentry was designed to resemble a "classic hero," hence his golden-blond hair and Thor-like cape. In the end, Sentry still looks like Superman.
As we know, Sentry will return in Avengers: Doomsday, whose release date has just been pushed back by Marvel and Disney. It remains to be seen how he will be treated. Such a powerful character is difficult to manipulate, Sentry being capable of eradicating any threat with the snap of his fingers. However, Marvel could use him to offer us a cosmic duel against Galactus, or some other threat.
